Maihack clearly knows how to tell a story and his character designs are good. Similarly, he never deepens the characters so they remain flat, two-dimensional types rather than complex beings. Here, Maihack spends lots of time watching people run, jump, fight, and so on without much of consequence happening. That meant pacing went way down and things dragged out. At the time, graphic novel collections were increasingly valuable to the bottom line and six issue collections were the sweet spot. Maihack clearly studied comics when the decompressed storytelling of the late 1990s and 2000s were all the rage. Here, we start in the middle and reach page 191 without too much happening, leaving us with a cliffhanger that will frustrate the audience and make parents feel as if they wasted their money. Considering the annual release pattern, young readers deserve stories with beginnings, middles, and ends. In fact, it does less than volume one, slowing things down.
We now have the second volume and it does little fresh or different.
Target Practice was an Egyptian-flavored space opera with an overly familiar feel to it, much like the overhyped Amulet series from Graphix. Unfortunately, the protagonist had as much to do with the real life Cleopatra as does the Queen of England. When Scholastic brought Mike Maihack’s webcomic Cleopatra in Space to print, it seemed like a perfect fit for their line. The Sword Thief follows the first two books in the series, The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan and One False Note by Gordon Korman. It was written by Peter Lerangis and was published by Scholastic on March 3, 2009. “It could have been from a knight who fell in the sea or lost it in a fight at sea,” Phillips told the newspaper.Cleopatra in Space: The Thief and the Sword The Sword Thief is the third book in The 39 Clues series. In the Third Crusade, King Richard I of England (also known as Richard the Lionheart), King Philip Augustus of France and the Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick I, returned to the Middle East in an attempt to retake Jerusalem. “It’s the first time that we found a beautiful sword like this.”ĭuring the Second Crusade, Muslim armies defeated Western crusaders at Damascus, Jonathan Phillips, a professor of the history of the Crusades at Royal Holloway, University of London, told the newspaper. “It’s normal to find swords in bad condition, but this one was found under the water - and under the water, it was preserved in very good condition,” Sharvit told the Times. Officials with the Israel Antiquities Authority said it had been aware of the location since June after a storm shifted the sand, the newspaper reported. But her teachers at Yasiro Academy forbid her from risking her life, so shes stuck at school, trying to adjust to her newfound popularity and responsibility. The size and shape of the weapon suggest it belonged to a crusader, and Sharvit said it was found several miles from Atlit Castle, a crusader fortress, the network reported. A mysterious thief has stolen the ancient sword Cleo recovered in Book One: Target Practice, and shes determined to get it back. The sword was found 656 feet from the shore at a depth of 13 feet, Sharvit told CNN. Katzin was more than happy to donate the sword to the Israel Antiquities Authority, but he had one request: He wanted a photograph of him holding the shell-encrusted weapon, the Times reported.
“It is exciting to encounter such a personal object, taking you 900 years back in time to a different era, with knights, armor and swords.” The sword is Laharls starting weapon, and is also the weapon of choice (or a sufficiently viable choice) for a full third of the creatable classes: both Male and Female Warriors, Knight, Samurai, Angel, Majin, and sometimes the Thief (while they have terrible Sword aptitude, some players create a Thief as a student under a Sword-wielder to take advantage of the team-attack method of gaining. “It was found encrusted with marine organisms, but is apparently made of iron,” Nir Distelfeld, an inspector in the Israel Antiquities Authority’s robbery prevention unit, told the AP. Katzin was on a weekend dive in northern Israel when he spotted ancient artifacts that included anchors, pottery and the sword, according to The Associated Press.
